If you spent the year awaiting the release of the new Sonos Sub, you’re in luck: It’s here and on sale for $679, down from $799, from today to Dec. 2.

If you’ve got a Sonos system at home, you know the two biggest pieces you’ll be purchasing are the sound bar and subwoofer. Sonos has gone to great lengths to make more affordable versions of both, with the Beam, Ray, and Sub Mini all under $500 (all three on are sale right now as well). These are all great pieces of sound equipment at that price, particularly the Sub Mini—but the array was missing a full-sized subwoofer.

Like its predecessors, the Sub 4 is majestic and modern. It also offers up such spectacular bass as to be immediately noticeable. I thought I had a good surround setup with an Arc and two Era speakers, but the subwoofer made its presence known immediately. The Sub 4 makes you feel the music in your bones, giving the room a subtle shake with each note. I frequently play music in my living room while working, and even my dog notices when the bass comes through. It isn’t just music—I began my annual rewatch of the Die Hard catalog this past weekend, and the sound effects rattled through us in a way they hadn’t previously.

Now, to be clear, you can’t stow this beast under your sofa; even on its side, it has a big footprint (15"x15"x6"). I was delighted to learn that the Sub doesn’t need to be in the center of the room; you can place it wherever works for you. Using Trueplay (an Apple-specific in-app feature that will use your device to tune your Sonos), you can dial in the surround sound specifically to your needs.

Sonos products traditionally haven’t gone on sale often, and while the company has struggled a bit this year, we’ve seen these sales for Prime Day as well as Black Friday—but I wouldn’t count on them forever. If you’ve been waiting for this release and a decent sale, this is it.
